Kapitex is a specialist company focussing on Head and Neck cancer and airway management for laryngectomy and tracheostomy patients. The Company has an excellent reputation for product quality and service with an enviable record for delivering products to very short lead times.

Kapitex is a small, rapidly expanding privately owned limited company. Established in 1991, Kapitex is science based and clinically orientated whose management has many years experience in the medical device industry.

Since its start up Kapitex has had a clear and committed programme for the development of innovative products which are increasingly protected by world-wide patents.

The Company concentrates on the design, marketing and distribution of its products, whilst using highly specialised sub-contractors for their manufacture and assembly. The company has certification to BS EN ISO 9001 and EN 46001

Mrs M. C. Thackray

CHAIRPERSON

Qualified as a Registered General Nurse (Oslo) specialising in Urology. Headed clinical marketing of orthopaedic prostheses for Norgas Healthcare Division, now part of Nycomed. Moved to UK and pioneered the first nursing services company focussing on incontinence care - Thackraycare - a division of Chas F Thackray Ltd. Was a Director of Thackray 1984-1990 and later Boehringer Mannheim UK 1990-1992.

John P. Thackray

MANAGING DIRECTOR O.B.E.

Is principle shareholder and managing director.

John was awarded the O.B.E for services to the British Healthcare Industry.

With considerable experience in healthcare and healthcare device fields spanning 30 years. Is also major shareholder and Managing Director of two development companies in Wound Care and Biotechnology.

Educated at Charterhouse School, and Cambridge and Edinburgh Universities. After a career in market research, including a period in Amsterdam, was managing Director of Chas F Thackray Ltd from 1978 to 1990 when the company was sold to Corange, parent company of Boehringer Mannheim.

Michael Eaton

MARKETING DIRECTOR

Studied Business and Marketing at Leeds Metropolitan University. Has specialised knowledge in product and brand management. Has worked in the medical area for over 30 years. His experience covers all aspects marketing disposable medical devices and body worn appliances. Worked at divisions within Chas F Thackray Ltd between 1974 and 1991. Joined Kapitex at its formation. Has specialised responsibilities for exporting, marketing and liaising with the UK Department of Health.

Stewart Pearson

COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR

Stewart was educated at The Minster School and Nunthorpe Grammar School York, and also at Loughborough University, where he obtained a BSc Honours Degree in Management Sciences in 1980.

He has worked in the healthcare industry for over 20 years, but specifically with medical devices since 1985, when he joined ThackrayCare – the ostomy and continence care division of Chas. F. Thackray Ltd – working particularly closely with Christin Thackray, Liv Triggs Hodge and Michael Eaton.

Stewart joined Kapitex with John Thackray and Michael Eaton at its formation in March 1991, and his specialised responsibilities include financial management and purchasing and stock control. As Company Secretary, Stewart manages all administrative, legal, personnel and establishment issues on behalf of the Company.

Liv Triggs Hodge

UK SALES DIRECTOR

Qualified as a Registered General Nurse (Elvrum, Norway). Has worked in Norway, Denmark, South Africa and the UK, specialising in Intensive Care nursing. In the early 1980's joined Chas F Thackray and helped to set up the Thackray Nursing Service, where she was responsible for 80 staff including 30 nurses and 6 retail outlets.

Has overall responsibility for the UK sales and exporting to the Scandinavian countries.

Ian Worthington

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Educated at West Notts Technical College - studied Mechanical and Production Engineering. He also has a MSc in Manufacturing Management and Technology. Experienced in toolmaking associated with plastic medical devices. He brings with him all aspects of design, production and materials knowledge, together with total project management which is vital for the Kapitex product development programme.

Is Management Representative for all aspects of Quality and Regulatory Affairs ensuring compliance with BS EN 9001:2000, ISO 13485:2003 & CE marking. FDA approvals in the USA and for liaising with the MHRA in the UK.

Clara Egan

Clara qualified as a physiotherapist in 2002 from Brighton University. She then specialised in respiratory care at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. Whilst working at Chesterfield she developed a special interest in Tracheostomy care and the Head and Neck patient group. She worked closely with the Speech and Language therapist to develop care pathways for Tracheostomy and Laryngectomy patients. On the critical care unit she worked closely with the outreach team to improve the use of the Passy-muir valve and developing an MDT approach to decannulation. She joined Kapitex in November 2006 as her first sales role.

Clinical Sales Training Manager

Qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1987, thereafter specialised in Intensive Care Nursing. Worked in Intensive Care in Scotland until 1997. Moved into the medical sales industry in 1997. First position was with Robson Medical Supplies Ltd as Sales Representative for Scotland, promoting Intensive Care Equipment and consumables and providing education to Consultants, Registrars and nurses. 2001 moved to Kapitex Healthcare Ltd as Product Specialist for Scotland, North East England and Northern Ireland. Through company growth and development, moved into position as Clinical Sales Training Manager May 2006.

Ann Kavanagh

Qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1990, went on to specialise in Cardiothoracic Surgery, then Intensive Care, obtaining a diploma in Critical Care Nursing. On leaving the NHS in 1999 I have worked as a specialist with Renal Intensive Care products and an Autologous Blood System designed for use in orthopaedic surgery.

I joined Kapitex Healthcare Ltd in August 2005 as Product Specialist for the Midlands, South West & South Wales, supporting Sales and providing training to customers in this geographical area.

In 1984 she qualified as a registered general nurse at King’s College Hospital, London. She then specialized in surgical, Liver Unit and Intensive Care nursing.

In 1987 she qualified as a midwife at St George’s Hospital, London. Moved to pharmaceutical sales in early 1990's, worked for Reckitt & Coleman for 2 years and then for 10 years with GlaxoSmithkline as a Respiratory Nurse Specialist.

She changed to medical sales in 2002 and then joined Coloplast Ltd as a Product Specialist and Nurse Advisor. During that time she studied at Hertfordshire University, Tissue Viability. In 2006 she joined Kapitex Healthcare Ltd having been keen to return to Airway Management and the hospital environment.

Siân Storey

Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England

Siân Storey qualified as a SRN in 1980 and has worked primarily in the ITU environment in a variety of hospitals including Southampton General, John Radcliffe in Oxford and the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh.

Since leaving Nursing she has worked as a Clinical Specialist in the Medical Device field (New Medical Technology and Tissuemed) and more recently as a Sales Representative for Cook UK Ltd where she gained her CIM certificate in Marketing.

Siân joined Kapitex Healthcare Ltd as a Product Specialist covering Scotland, Northern Ireland and North East England.

Qualified as a Operating Department Practitioner in 1997 after fulfilling various medical roles within the the NHS and Private sector. From 1997 progressed within the Private sector to Deputy theatre Manager.

Moved into Medical Sales in 2000 working in the Cardiology Division, then progressing over the years to B.D as a Clinical Resource Consultant providing Training and Sales, Bard dealing in Vascular Grafts, G.E supplies and Accessories for Anaesthetic Machines and Monitors to ITU and Theatres and Finally KAPITEX as a Product Specialist.
